Hi Sarah, NZ's situation is similar to Australia where teachers are dissuaded from looking into other research, practices and systems then patronized for being uninformed in these.
On my visits to Finland, Finnish teachers always assumed that my visit was paid for by an Australia education department as most of them have international experience of this type.
Hi Michael - yes I was impressed with the 'sabbatical' type study options available for Finnish educators that we don't have here in NZ. Especially of the government funded type! Surely if we want our teachers to be continually learning and growing, we have to enable them to be able to connect with and learn from a wide variety of other educators - and not just those in our own backyard.
